ISSG Affiliated Faculty & Graduate Students Honored at 2023 American Anthropology Association Annual Meeting

At the recent annual meeting of the American Anthropological Association, a number of ISSG affiliates were recognized and awarded for their work in the field.

  • ISSG Affiliate Faculty Member Jafari S. Allen was a co-winner of the Gregory Bateson Book Prize, for his book There's A Disco Ball Between Us: A Theory of Black Gay Life (Duke University Press, 2022)
  • ISSG Graduate Certificate Student Alyssa Basmajian was the winner of both the Council on Anthropology and the Reproduction and Research on US Health and Healthcare, Society of Medical Anthropology prizes for her paper, "Reproductive Gerrymandering, Bureaucratic Violence, and the Erosion of Abortion Access in the United States"
  • ISSG Affiliate Faculty Member Jennifer S. Hirsch received the 2023 Carole H. Browner Graduate Student Mentorship Award
  • ISSG Core Faculty Member Lila Abu-Lughod received the 2023 Association for Feminist Anthropology Career Award
